Help stuck in Montana

1997 2500 5 speed 4X4 Afc live 3/8 rubber lines from tank to  injection  pump  and return Tork tek overflow Egt , boost, fuel press gauge Boost elbow at 31 Stock timing I believe Traveling  from Florida to Idaho with about 11000 on the  trailer . All was well for the first 2200 miles. Started to get real high EGT's and was falling on its face from 3 to 4 and 4 to 5. A little from  2  to  3 . Started smoking badly after shifting and took forever for  turbo  to catch up. By the time it does EGT,S are already going over 1200. Boost is still climbing so I believe the  turbo  is good. I checked shaft play and all good. I'm thinking maybe an injector went out.  Fuel  pressure  is good at about 30 At the begging of the trip I was on a pretty good grade (long and 5%) I shifted into 4 and was able to maintain 55ish at 1000egt and about 24 boost no problem. No it would be into 1500 before I got close to that. Any help appr...

Bilstein 4600 first impressions...meh.

I   went with 4600's because of the favorable reviews and the fact that I keep the truck at stock height and do mostly highway driving. 300 miles into it after install and I think my expectations were too high. Rebound performance may be a tad better over giant potholes, but initial compression is stiff and unforgiving. Small road imperfections translate to the cab more than ever and moderate bumps and rough road patches send vibrations through to the  steering   wheel  and pedals where I didn't notice them before. I dropped  tire  pressures but somehow it seemed worse so I'm thinking that the  tires  might be contributing to the pogo effect feel. My wife is going to be thrilled!    I've got the Off Road package w/ Bilsteins, and they're pretty stiff. My previous FX4 was pretty stiff too though. It's just off road shocks in general I guess. i put 5100s on after 82k miles,  front  shocks  had very little life and the r...

68RFE Trans Service? Replace filters or leave them alone?

My truck just turned 100K and I am looking at doing the trans service. I bought all the fluid and Mopar filters and a friend of mine told me to keep the original filters in there because replacing them could cause premature  transmission  failure. I know flushing transmissions can do this but has one heard or have experience with filters causing premature failure? The trans currently shifts beautiful (especially now with EFI Live) and shows no signs of going out. What say CumminsForum?  I'd say don't listen to your friend. Can't imagine how replacing a (old, well used, needs replaced likely) filter can do anything but good. I think, like you, he's confusing power flushing an old trans that could be gunked up and causing some issues there Your friend is full of it! But, depending on what you do with your truck, you're a little late on the first service! On the first change, especially one so late, I'd do the filters for sure. I can tell you that the seal on the  ...

BobSagetIsGod? finds the Cream Of The Crop

As some of you may have caught on, the 2014 is gone. It sucked parting ways with, but it was time. Putting all the time, effort, and money into a truck that I knew eventually would not be enough, just didn't make sense any more. I tried real hard to make it work, but I realized it's time to put on my my big girl pants, and get into a real truck. SOOOOO, that's where the  fun  begins . The 2014 has been gone since Friday, and non stop searching across this earth for the perfect truck, with EVERYTHING i want and need, so that hopefully I can break my world record of staying in a truck for more that 2.5 years this time. After literally days of searching, multiple dealerships trying to steal my money, I kept coming up empty handed with a truck that was EXACTLY what I wanted. I'm a neutral color guy, black or white. Black sucks to keep clean, white looks very clean. Until it dawned on me. What color is ALL of my favorite trucks in the ENTIRE universe? The beautifully clean, ...

Exhaust Brake Use

So being new to diesels I'm still reading and learning as much as possible. I've done some searches, but didnt find the answers. So my current questions are about the EB and when & how to use it. Is it okay to use all the time on Full Mode ( towing  or not)? Will using it alot negatively affect the  engine ,  turbo , DEF system, EB itself? If using Full all the time is a good thing then what is the Auto mode for? Thanks y'all. I use my EB all the time. Pretty much daily. Saves my pads, sounds great and helps alot on highways and hills. You will burn through DEF faster, at least that's what it does in my truck. Big difference in DEF use when not running EB all the time.  Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk Using it all the time won't hurt anything, I push the button after starting the truck. The only time you shouldn't use it is when the roads are slick, as it could cause the rear  tires  to slide. Full or Auto is your preference, basically Full applies...

Can a Ram Rebel Keep up with a Power Wagon in the Arizona Desert?

Image
It’s easy to mistakenly write off a truck like the 2017  Ram 1500  Rebel as overrated when it comes to off-road prowess. That’s particularly true when one is parked amongst a herd of hulking  Ram 2500  Power Wagons. After all, the  Power Wagon  is the be-all and end-all of trail-tackling trucks on the market, something  AutoGuide .com’s truck expert  Stephen Elmer  recently  rediscovered at the launch  of the refreshed 2017 version. Its ability to climb over rather than around obstacles is virtually unmatched by anything this side of a  Jeep Wrangler Rubicon . By contrast, the Rebel can at first glance look like little more than an appearance package that’s been added to Ram’s half-ton truck — and that’s because it mostly is. Except if you dig a little deeper, you’ll find a pickup that’s packed with potential.  Bilstein  shocks at all four corners compliment a standard air  suspension  setup that gets an ext...
